I havent blogged in a long time. months. i didnt check my last post to see exactly how long, but maybe somebody can help me out with that.
so the question is at hand, what could have brought me out of my blog-free zone? there are a ton of things i could have blogged about over the past few months. not having a job, finding a job, worrying about ppl, my own self loathing, which has been growing exponentially. i didnt even blog about seeing Aesop Rock for god's sake. Aesop Rock!! damn, im really lazy.
The answer to the question of course is a movie. A good movie. A damn good movie. A freakin' great movie. Not the best ive ever seen, but something that could definately creep its way into my top twenty, given another viewing.
The film in question is Stranger Than Fiction. I'm ashamed that I just now got around to watching this movie. I've been wanting to see it for quite some time now, but for some reason, just never got to it. I would usually see it at the video store and think 'i want to watch that, but i know Josh and Dave have already seen it. oh well.' But thanks to netflix, I watched it last night.
If you havent actually seen the movie, here's the lowdown. An extraordinarily average guy begins hearing a voice narrating his every action, thought, and mannerism. Pretty much his life. Will Ferrell's original reactions to the voice were great, and he was almost perfect for the character. He thinks at first that it may his toothbrush talking to him lol. He tries to ignore it for a bit until the voice lets slip that his death is imminent, and thats when he starts to freak. From there he seeks help, and tries to discover what to do, and who exactly is narrating his life. thats the gist of the movie for the most part.
Pretty much from the start I was fascinated. I loved the on screen GUI type visuals that accompanied the narration. I love Emma Thompson's voice, she was the perfect fit for the role. I just plain love Emma Thompson. The entire cast was great. The writing was brilliant. The movie was exceedingly clever, thoughtful, and even heart-warming. I really cant say enough about it.
I originally had a problem with the ending, but i thought about, and it actually fit pretty well with the rest of the movie.
Oh and if all that werent enough, the soundtrack was by none other than austin's very own Spoon. Spoon!! mmmm...Brit Daniels....
So there you have it. Best movie ive seen in a long time. Watch if you havent. and if you have, then watch again dammit.
I also saw 30 days of night, and that was pretty cool too.
Also coming soon, my revised top ten film list, and maybe even top 20. laters
