k-num's oscar pics
I don't usually get excited during oscar time, and this year is not necessarily an exception. Most of the time I'm pretty dissapointed by the whole thing. If I were a man of conviction, I wouldn't go near the oscars, due to of course the '94 shawshank/gump fiasco. But I'm human, and as a human I : A) never learn, and B) must be informed when some dumb celebrity gets some dumb anatomically incorrect gold statue. So in the event that someone might actually care, here are my predictions for this years movie award type thingy. The categories that matter anyway.
(disclaimer: I know it's not until march, but i couldn't think of anything else to post about right now)
Best writing: I've only seen two of the films in the adapted category, if History of Violence wins anything i'll be pissed. That movie was ten kinds of boring. The screenplay for for BBM was pretty good, but I see Capote taking this one. As for Original, I'm hoping my fav for this year (good night and good luck) picks this one up, but Crash could get it instead.
Best Documentary: Murderball!Murderball!Murderball! *Did I say murderball?* The penguins will probably win *b/c of number of tickets sold, no doubt* and i will be bitter.
Best actress/supporting: the only perfomance i've seen is michelle williams, and frankly, i could have done without it. Weisz won the golden globe, so who knows. I like catherine keener though , so give it to her dammit.
Best actress: Man if you were the type of person who takes things the wrong way, you might think i'm a mysoginist after reading this. I haven't seen any of these perfomances. I guess i'm just a philostine. Fel Huffman won the oscar jr. in this category, sooooo....woozle wuzzle.
Best actor/supporting: Pretty good line up for this category. I freakin love Paul Giamatti, but I don't think his role was necessarily oscar worthy. My pic is Clooney for Syriana, the globe winner. He was the best thing about that movie. Also he nearly killed himself making this movie. If Matt or Jake wins, I won't be that dissappointed. As long as it isn't William Hurt. Fie on that movie I say.
Best actor: This is the category where i'm really torn. It's the battle of the underrated actors in my opinion. Phil Hoffman will probablly win this category, and I'm sure he deserves it. *I WILL go see Capote dammit!* But as much as I like him, I probably like Strathairn even more. He's always had this sort of loser charm hanging around his neck, and to see him in a role this strong left me absolutely speechless. If you have not seen this movie, stop reading this immediately and do whatever it takes to watch it.
Best Director: This is another want to win/will win situation. Ang Lee will win it. BBM was very beautiful, and pretty brave. He did get some good performances out of his actors. But personal preferences set in here. Clooney did a stunning job of throwing the audience into a very electric and important time in US history. He won't win, but I think he should
Best Picture: Ditto for this category as well. I really can't see anything other than Brokeback winning here. It is good to see a film like this win despite the fact that we're in the midst of a conservative revolution. BTW, if you liked BBM, you really should read the story. It was much more emotionally stirring, in my humble opinion
Well there you have it. If I skipped over something you think I should have covered, let me know. If you agree or disagree, let me know. If you don't care, then there's no need to comment I guess. ya bastid.

Oh my holy hell! I am SO glad to see that I am not the only person who is STILL bitter about Stupid freakin Forest Gump beating out Shawshank for best picture, when Shawshank was SO by FAR the BEST PICTURE. No way around it, no matter how many 'tards you pack into any other movie.
My only prediction is that Matt Dillon will never, EVER win an Oscar. Ever.
With a capital E, EVER.
He and Ethan Hawke can get together afterward and toast to "what an honor is it to be nominated.
I didn't understand most of this post. By the end, I had figured out that BBM stands for Broke Back Mountain. It was the only movie I've seen out of the ones referenced. I recognized about half of the names. I'm so out of it. How can I be cool like you, Cainnum?
