(not) a dream

i saw the steps ahead
and lowered down my heels
the spirit is speeding it's way
to the emergence, see
how i came upon the broken down
the weak, the false hearts
was this...
the grass snaked and shuffled
the wind carried my feet
to them and back
words scattered like dust
on a flat panel
and before my eyes a crowd,
of the all too familiar,
spread their minds along
the waves of air
did they speak?
had i been spoken to?
where the colors just black and red?
trust is fire here
so i briskly walk the banks
searching 'scapes
for all my shadows
though all i hear is laughing
i climb, again
the stairs to my home
the walls of my head
wherein lies my heart
where all the mistakes i made
were chalkboard white
and while the next few steps
feel like walking backwards
i smile
and remember where i'm at
the stretched out road
with an end
of unending possibilities
but it's hard to get excited
when you know it's just a dream

comet

at last!
the comet of the sea
washes upon the shore
and i hand myself a closer eye
ignoring the heat of half the hate
of the world's new order
inside...
past an egg's crack
i witness every thing
history burning the witness
the future ensnaring the witless
the rise and fall of city and state
hopelessly rebuilding
like ants to the pile
and the comet now cooling
like a screen from the television
shows other worlds
on other days
i stand back and grasp at empty beach
what my looking eye saw i cannot take
those other men
not human, but like one
were not fighting or shedding blood
nor laughing at those who cried for help
my skull could not hold these ideas
and i ran back to where things made sense

other days

other days are the same
less rain
more sympathy and wind
but the trees seem unmoved
i pass the smiles and frowns
the garden variety city filler
the pain is a generic prescription
do they all hurt?
i was told that they care
they just don't know it
how do you live alone
and yet surround yourself
books don't tell you this
other days
they are cheering in the stands
praising their maker (faker)
but today
burning homes and hearts
are on the menu
their eyes fall further
the shame becomes real
and fills us up
other days hands are shaking
and love falls like snow
but today
.....today
we are in the open
and lost
led by the hand to the end of the line
the happy trails now far away
any other day i would sing for us all
but not today

the story of nothing

wondering....

if i should call my lawyer about this
would it make more sense if i said it out loud?
would the following words reach paper
or the air.....

the chicago beats upon the door
help drown out the real sounds
the factory whistles of the final shift
the whispering fires of the rendering plant
the sounds of the city fighting itself
it never gets old for me
it gets ancient
the technology fossilizes
mold collects on polished metal
and dirt gets in the circuits
and we start wondering...

what got in the way
why did belief save us from the rain
only to lead us to the ocean
when did biology bite the hand and the bullet
where were the giants of industry
in the middle of the stoned age
neck deep in the last laugh
crushed, like all, under the weight
of passive red skies
showing signs of breaking to the east
tailing the new migration

and it is here
that the beat returns
slamming home the notion
that man will give home
to machine
that the canvas on the door will read
'the war of the cities is over'
we are condemned to live alone
with each other
and tell our own nothing stories
forever and ever
amen

contest

starting today and ending whenever i feel like it i'm running a contest on my blog. the challenge is to come up with a title for my blog. (where it says we've got heads on sticks now.) i usually use song lyrics or movie lines or what have you, but if anyone can come up with something original, that'll work too. the winner of course will they're they're title added, with a guarantee that it will stick for at least a week, but probably longer. if no one participates, the default title will be 'you're all a bunch of jerks'. let the games begin.

the future is now

i say this because i am posting this from my PSP, thanks to the new firmware update. granted it took five minutes to write that last sentence, but it's still pretty cool. if i keep this up though, my posts might end up looking like IM conversations. C U L8R, ROFL, and such and such.
