Funeral

As the uninspired title of this blog suggests, I am going to a funeral tommorrow. My stepfathers funeral, or ex stepfather as it were. If you know me well enough to know anything about my childhood, you'll know that I really didn't like him that much. He could be a good guy when he wanted to be, but he rarely was towards my brother and I. I won't go into any depressing details, but needless to say he was definately not the fatherly type. When I heard he was dead, i'm very ashamed to say what i felt, or didn't feel. I was shocked, but I didn't feel sad. I know it's horrible. I feel horrible for feeling it. I really wish i was sad. I certainly never wanted him dead. I feel bad for everybody else who loved him, namely my mom. my brother also seems pretty upset too. I haven't told anybody in my family how i feel. i'm putting it on my blog because i'm confident they'll never read this. i'm not sure if i can handle the funeral. there are going to be hundreds of people there, all very mournful. I'm going to feel like a faker, like a tourist. Does this make me a bad person? it certainly feels like it does.

Television

Ever since I started my jaded teenage years, my dislike for tv has grown and grown. the programs that I actually liked either were cancelled too early or got crappy real quicklike I.E. x-files. So tv and I drifted further and further apart. Occasionaly i would watch something Whedon oriented, or something on cartoon network after ten at night. I gave up on the networks for good.
So you can imagine my surprise when these networks started showing shows on tv that I like. I was taken aback. It was kinda like when I found out that there was good hip hop being made. Here are the shows that have partially rekindled my interest in the idiot box, one for every network.
House i've already posted about, so i won't write too much about it. I will say that i still don't like fox, but that's another post altogether. I think Hugh Laurie is an amazing actor and pretty much what drives the show. I'm sure i'll get hell about that.
Next is cbs, the channel that old people watch. The show is of course CSI. The las vegas one. not NY and certainly not miami. I've been randomly watching eps from previous seasons, but not much of season five. I did however watch the season five finale and was blown away. George Eads (Nick Stokes) really showed off his acting abilities. I can genuinely say that I was afraid for him. Oh yeah he's also hot.
Moving on, my selection for nbc. Someone might find this questionable as the pick for the best show on nbc, but i don't care. i like it. granted i've only seen one ep. if it sucks later on i will retract my statement. The show is My Name is Earl. It's funny. It's sweet. I really like it. it's only a half hour. if it were an hour i might not like it as much. It's shows that anybody can change. Even a redneck.
We come to ABC, and a very non surprising pick. Lost is good. I like it a lot. There are a few things that bug me a little. mainly the fact that the writers and producers felt that they had to throw in some mysterious and scary monster on the island in order to keep the audience enthralled. I would like the show just as much without it. I've got a feeling however that not all is what it seems and that monster may be something totally different. Also Lost is home to one of the most creepiest dudes ever, John Locke, played by the guy from The stepfather, Terry O' Quinn. The reason I and most people like lost is the really good acting and superb writing. Add that with HIGH production values (every ep looks like a damn movie) and you got yourself a winner.
Upn is the shocker for me. I was talking to margie about my selection for this network, Veronica Mars. She said she loved it and said that Joss Whedon has said that the writing was way better than what he did on his shows. I got really pumped about it and asked what channel it was on, and margie said UPN. I almost didn't believe her. It took me a few episodes to get into it, but i really like it now, and i can't really explain why. It's basically a teen dramedy, with your usually bands of preps and outcasts, but something a little different. It seems a little more mature than you might expect. my only real problem i have with it is that it starts out with the death of a friend of veronica's, which feels a little too laura palmer to me. it still rocks though.
so there you have it. Shows that don't suck from networks that do.
oh wait i forgot the WB. umm.......nope nothing. WB just sucks. *i'm sure i'll catch mega hell for that comment*

afraid

I've been trying to write a poem for the past few days, but nothing is coming. Something about how afraid I am. It was coming out all straightforward and easy worded, like a seventeen year old girl might write, and you know me, always burying myself in metaphor and imagery. i don't know if i'll ever write it. well see. I started exercising in the gym last night. nothing much, just a little time on the treadmill and some random freeweight stuff. i'll look up some exercise plans tonight. my mom and i went to a free advance screening of the greatest game ever played last night. I really don't like golf, but this was a pretty good movie. I'm really a big fan of Shia Lebeouf, and will watch anything with him in it, except even stevens. I wish I could blog like margie. she's a pro.
what else?
oh yeah there's a hurricane coming. I really hate bad weather.I'm really scared. again with the whole fear thing. man i would never make it in defending your life.

A short list of my own

Bolstered by the fact that more than one person liked a band that I suggested, I've decided to make a list of some of my favorite indie rock songs. I know i've done this before, but that was while ago, and the list has changed drastically. When possible I'll the link to bandsites, and I'll add little descriptions to each song, to let you know if it's really for you or not. If you hear any of them, or question the "indieness" of any selection, let me know. Enjoy.

P.S. these songs are pretty much what i'm about.

Elbow - Any day now *Quietly Apocalyptic*

The Anniversary - Sweet marie *Pop with Teeth*

Ween - Ocean Man *Really weird and really catchy*

Badly Drawn Boy - Once around the block *Dour and irresistible britpop*

Phoenix - Everything is everything *Groovy and intelligent*

Super Furry Animals - It's not the end of the world? *expansive and beautifully crafted*

Sparklehorse - Piano fire *the greatest three minutes of music i have ever heard*

Creeper Lagoon - Wrecking ball *Loud and lovely*

Jets to Brazil - Chinatown *guitar rock with a brain*

Smoking Popes - Megan *An upbeat indiepop tale. Pay attention to the lyrics and you might catch yourself crying*

The Promise Ring - Size of your life *An indie gem*

Cornelius - Drop *The one electronic selection. A japanese booty shaker*

Dork Heaven

Without admitting to any illegal activity, I got to watch Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. For those that are unaware, this is a computer animated movie spinoff of what has often been called the greatest video game ever. It was released not in theatres but on DVD and UMD yesterday in Japan. Someone of course decided not to wait the two months for the American release, and made a pirated copy of the Japanese version instead, complete with english subtitles. So how was it you ask? Well I'll tell you.
It was good. Really good. Of course this is just one opinion, and you should really check it out for yourself. I will however briefly go over some of the goods and the bads of the film.
First of all, those who actually played FFVII will appreciate this film much more than those who have not. I myself have played the game three times over, and let me say that thank god there is no chocobo breeding involved. The basic story is set about a year after the end of the game. All the characters from the game are involved, and it largely circles around Cloud and the whole Jenova business. The look of the film is amazing, and Uematsu-san uses alot of the music from the game, which I really appreciated. The bad things. Uhhh...it's a Japanese film, so the plot is convoluted, and might be hard to follow for those not already familiar with the story. It also gets a little cheesy from time to time, but again, it's from Japan, so what are you gonna do. Oh yeah, it's kinda short too. About an hour and fifteen minutes.
If I were using any sort of ratings system, I would have to give it four out of five stars. Really good but not perfect.
That's all from Dork Heaven. See ya next time, and remember, don't waste that phoenix down.

crap

i'm not one for spilling my guts and displaying my emotions publicly, but i thought about it, and i doubt my blog would ever be considered public by anyone. i'm in a really bad situation right now. i've been unemployed for a while now, and now i have absolutely no money to give adawna for rent or bills, and apparantly the landlord is an asshole, because we got an eviction notice for oweing two hundred dollars last month. now it's a lot more. to make matters much worse, i've been hiding out at my mom's place like a coward, horribly afraid of confrontation. This wouldn't have been a problem if i could have gotten unemployment benefits, but i couldn't because i was fired. i'm really stressing about it and i'm at the end of my rope. the job search has been sucking, and i'm probably going to end up moving back in with my mom. i lose.

house is in the house!

i'm pretty bad about jumping on the bandwagon late when it comes to tv shows. i started watching sopranos around season five and firefly i never watched until a year after it was cancelled. This is usually due to some lame excuse or just sheer apathy. Once I actually watch the shows though I am blown away. So when i finally broke down and decided to watch house i was not surprised in the least to find that it was really good. Not amazing, but pretty damn good. The two episodes i saw were the one with the guy with the infected jaw, played by John Cho ( who i think is Hot!!) The other was the one where he taught the diagnosis class. that one was really good. my lame reason for not watching is that i remember the last time Hugh Laurie tried an american accent (stuart little) it sounded horrible, at least to me. He's much better with it in House though. I haven't seen every ep of season one yet, so i can't declare it a hit, but so far so good.oh and i don't even like medical shows, but I like house. and the theme song is 'teardrop' by massive attack. What's not to love? Anybody with me? *chirp chirp*
