Aspects of Lost
Sorry, but I need to vent. If you're not at all interested in the show then simply disregard this post. This is pretty much going to be a weighing of pros and cons about the show. Honestly they're pretty even right about now. Call it my homage to
Book of Ratings. I'll try and keep the spoilers to a minimum. I'll start with the cons
1: The reruns. I was nearly driven mad for almost an entire month waiting for a new episode. What the hell? Granted any lost is good lost, but they kept showing the preview for the new episode for three weeks. By the time I actually saw the episode I had certain exciting scenes memorized.
2: The plot. Or lack thereof. Lost pretty much consists of random weird events that lead to other random weird events, and the characters reaction to said events. A bit of lazy writing if you ask me. Oh and flashbacks. Lots of those. Each episode is usually devoted to flashbacks of one characters life before the crash. This usually leaves me saying 'I wonder when we're gonna hear more about hurley' or 'when are we gonna get another locke episode?'* which we did this week*
3:Where the FUCK are Michael and Walt?! It's not like they were my favourite characters or anything, but they are main characters. Walt was taken and then Michael went after him. And that's it. No one has said anything about them since. Maybe the mysterious *insert sarcastic tone* force erased everbody's memories. Weird. Eerie. Annoying. No wait, just annoying.
Pros
1: The characters. Without the characters there would be no show, just a creepy island with a polar bear, twidling his thumbs in boredom, waiting to get shot. Their lives are way more interesting than mine, and they are piddling around on a not at all deserted island for my amusement. Also some of the guys really bring out the homo in me. Jack is hot, but kind of standard. Sawyer is pretty good looking, but a complete ass. Jin is hot, but kind of ovebearing and dopey. Sayid though, oh my goodness that man is sexy. He's gotten pretty angry ever since.....something happened, but he's still freaking gorgeous. Ahem..sorry.
2:I have to say the random events are a plus as well. They keep me, and millions of other tv viewers coming back for more. Granted by the end of the series, we will probably come out with more than a handful of little story arcs or clues that will go absolutely nowhere. And that's when the looting will begin.
3:The look. I've gone over this before but i'll say it again. The production value for this show must be pretty high, because it really does look like it was cut for the theatres. I'd probably end up peeing my pantaloons in awe and wonder if I ever saw an episode in Hi-def. Kudos to JJ and his crew for suckering ABC out of what I assume is piles and piles of money they regularly swim in.
There is sooo much more I could cover, and probably will if I get bored enough. This season is building up to maybe answer a few things, but it's got a long way to go to proper closure. Although it has dipped from number one on my list to number two, now that the Sopranos are back on, it still a big reason why I still watch tv.
This fanboy is rant is over. You may go in peace.

woozle wuzzle
I guess I should post, if for nothing more than postings sake. I really, really, really want to come visit everyone in Denton soon. Getting a little homesick I guess. I might be moving out of my mom's place in the next couple of months. W00T! I saw V for Vendetta on saturday. It was the coolest. The external speakers on my psp have gone out, so it's more like an ipod than ever. The Sopranos have started again, so my sundays don't suck anymore, and I really want to write a poem, but nothing is coming out. *watch it with the jokes sickos*
Same as it ever was.

You're 27 now right? Just like me. Hope you have a great birthday and get lots of cool stuff. Sorry I couldn't be there. Laters.

Swimming in it
Sunday night was the only night I went out on SXSW weekend, so I went with what I know. Apparantly every sunday night for over a year, they've had an adult swim viewing party a bar downtown called redrum. I went to my very first one last sunday, and I had a blast, mainly because quiet a few people from william street were there. I met Dave Willis, co-creator of ATHF and the voice of meatwad and carl. I also met a chick named melissa, who is a producer for boondocks and squidbillies. She gave me her card and told me to email her and she'd send me lots of cool free stuff. Score! Also I talked with this really cute guy named Robby for a while. AND I got to watch all the shows that my friends and family would probably turn their noses at. (Boondocks, Moral Orel, Minoriteam*which was effin' hysterical*) On a really big screen to boot. I plan on going as much as possible. I don't mean to sound cheesy, but I did get a real sense of community there.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is just one more reason why I love Austin!

My next g-g-generation
Besides blogging, my time wasting is mostly done through the wonderful world of video games. Including my psp I have three systems, and lord only knows what i'll have come next year. If you talk to me for more than five minutes, i'm bound to spout some random fact about the
next generation. 360 is here, and my opening impression is that it's a high def xbox/ipod. The news this morning is that the ps3 will be released worldwide early this november, complete with a built in 60gig hd *sweet!* and a new, and supposedly free, online service ready at launch time. These are tenative facts of course, and could change at any time. BTW if you want to know what I and other people think the ps3
should look like, take a gander.

Pretty nice mock up if you ask me.
As far nintendo goes they're doing they're best to distance themselves from their competitors. Claiming to usher in a new era of gaming with their wand like controller, the revolution will most likely be marching around the same time, if not earlier than it's japanese rival. I'm actually more excited about the revo., mainly because it will be within my price range. (ps3 could be $399 or even more, and early numbers for the revo put it around $99 to $199)
Lastly, as far as new devices, and what i'm likely to buy from nintendo go, there is the DS lite. I had a DS for a while, and wasn't blown away by it. I eventually traded it in for my psp. Over the last year the ds has come out with a buttload of games as well as a pretty popular wifi service and now they have revamped the whole damn thing. Here's a peek.

It's smaller, better looking, and has a screen that's ten times brighter. It's selling like out crazy in Japan. I can honestly say I will most likely buy one when it's released in the states. Geez i'm a fickle mushhead.
OH yeah one more thing!

Katamari! For the PSP! Next Tuesday! Ya-Ta!

I don't know
Not much to write about the moment, except for my daily inner turmoil.
I have a blog because.....
I like to see my ideas in print and available for public viewing. I like to get ideas and feedback from my friends. I also think it definitely helps keep in touch with my good friends that I don't get to see much of.
I need approval and acknowledgement of my thoughts and actions? yes. and no. Basically the comments I get let me know that people are reading my blog. If I don't get comments, I don't know if it's being read, and get frustrated, because I don't see the point in talking if no one hears me. This also taps into my deep seated self esteem issues. "Well nobody reads my blog, nobody cares" I don't think that necessarily, but along those lines. I know I need confidence. Maybe I should think of confidence as thinking that people care, whether they do or not. Who knows?
Also I know this is my fault. I need to promote by blog more. I tried linking random blogs that I like and commenting on them, but that didn't help. Also I'm lazy.
What it boils down to is that I find myself at a crossroads. One road says "blog whenever you feel like it, and if people comment, great" This is the most popular one. The next is "Keep your chin up, post as often as possible, just to spite the low readership", this one is doubtful, and the third one says "Eventually give up, erase the blog, and never talk to anyone again" this one, as much as i hate to admit it, i've thought about before.
I'm a very emotional person *duh*, and I take things very personally. I've been this way a long time, and I've tried to change, with very little luck. Maybe one day i'll stop caring as much.
God that sounded depressing.

Geek Corner # 2
And now it's time for another edition of Geek Corner, with your host, Cainnum "How was I supposed to know he was the real Shatner" Hopkins.
Ahem...
Oh hello there. Welcome to geek corner. You're probably asking yourself "Hey, what's geek corner?" or "What the hell are you doing in my house?" or my favorite "Get your hands off my guinea pig!" That last one wasn't a question really, but what the hell ever. Geek corner was published a long time ago, so there was a pretty big gap. I believe it was on the topic of FF7: Advent children. Today I again find myself discussing the topic of movies based on video games.
I'll be the first to admit that almost every piece of celluloid attached to a gaming franchise of some kind will most likely end up a big pile of chocobo crap. Mostly due to Uwe Boll. The Mario bros. movie was so bad, it went to good and all the way back to bad again, and...well i don't really have an and. I've pretty much avoided these suckers at all costs, ever since the afformentioned brothers mario. The exceptions of course are Final Fantasy. Spirits Within was pretty good, and i don't have to tell you about Advent Children. Mainly because I already did.
Anyway the point, *and there is one* is that a certain film releasing on April 21st may turn things around for me, as far as this subject is concerned.
Silent HillI saw the preview when mater and I went to the drive-in theatre in San Antonio on saturday. As a fan of the series *the first one, anyway* I have to say, from what i saw, i was blown away. There are some things that are taken straight from the game. I can't describe it. you really should watch the preview for yourself. I hope my good friend Andy reads this, as i know he is a fan as well.
I guess the main reason I'm geeking out is the similarities to the game and the movie. Some of the same characters are there, including Cybill: the cop, and cristabella: the creepy old woman, played by Alice Krige, better known to geek corner readers as the borg queen. There's also little details, like the roads turning into cliffs, the school, the fog and the ash falling from the sky, and especially the creepy ass music. This is the first film of this year I am REALLY excited about. If it sucks, oh well. Wouldn't be too surprised. Movie trailers have a way of fooling the general public. Go watch it for yourself and let me know what you think.
Until next time, remember, Silent Hill is waiting.

mom
It's my mom's birthday today. She's fifty now. It's kinda crazy. I feel bad that I can't do anything for her today, seeing as how i'm working. Might come up with something later after work, like making dinner or cleaning house or something. Also she has to run out and cash her check and take her cpr class and what not, so that kinda sucks too. It is my belief that when it's a person's birthday, they have the god given right to not have to do a goddamn thing. But that's just one man's opinion. We are having a party for her on friday, and i'm taking her somewhere cool on saturday, so we got her covered. Just not on her birthday proper. Having a bday on a weekday sucks. Especially one as important as fifty.
In FH news, i've got a pretty big one brewing, but it's taking a while. I'm thinking about doing a smaller one on the fly, just for giggles.
One More Thing might not be ready for at least another week.
Oops, almost forgot. Song of the Week. This is a good one.
